Cheese On Apple Pie Question

I never took note of it before, but this board doesn't have a forum specifically dedicated to food--now that's odd. So the photo corner will have to make do for this topic.

A flight of fancy re a premium apple pie purchase has led me to post this topic as a question since the origin of a particular 'form' of 'dressing up' an apple pie is supposedly English in origin.

My question/quest is: do you English still put cheese (cheddar supposedly) on apple pies on occasion?

A hit led me to this aphorism re a food critic's series of comments on pie + cheese matters:
An apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze.
