Lost Files

I have just recenty noticed a folder that has appeared called "Lost Files" this has an enormouse amount of dat in it about 305 Gb and as I am running out of free space can any one expllain how it was created, what its use is and also should I delete this file?

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate

The answer, strictly, is yes, you can delete them. They are often leftover bits from when windoze was not shut down properly or something else. Have a browse through the folder and see if you can identify some of the files there and if you might require them.

Leigh, I am interested --did Windows create this folder (without Mike requesting it, I mean;))? Or, do you know if some other program gathered these up for him?

Sometimes Avast! offers to improve my computer's performance, claiming I have unnecessary programs, files that can be deleted to save drive space, etc.
