on the death of a forum

Thought I might try to rekindle the poetry craze we had a while back by posting this poem I wrote on the hoof in the old lineone/tiscali/talk talk poetry and creative writing forum recently.

The forum is being wound up in favour of a Talk Talk proper forum. I stopped frequenting the forum when some people I liked were banned for no logical reasons. Just recently, I thought I'd go and take a look at what was my introduction to web forums. It seemed poetic to me to be one of the last posters on the sinking ship as I was one of the first posters when Tiscali took over from lineone.

I like this poem because I was able to say exactly what I meant and found the words to do it. Its not profound but every word is historically true:

Back then, I only sought
Some help with how to say
"Hello World" in JavaScript
So searched to find a way

To my delight I found a source
a mine of information
The Lineone Webhelp forum was
My website education

They say there are no strangers
Just friends you've not yet met
And that forum was abundant with
Folks of that good set

From there I ventured forth to find
The Lineone Chatty forum
Pleased to find yet more folk
With the self same nice decorum

Then Lineone went the purple route
When Tiscali then took over
But those same friends that I met there
Remained like an old pullover (sorry for that bit)

And now Talk Talk has put an end
To all that lively banter
Although some die hards still remain
But I doubt that we'll see "Santa"

We'll meet again, the old song claims
And lets hope that we do
For forums rule in my old book
And it seems they do for you.

Has the Tiscali forum closed for good now?

Just been back to see what's going on, seems there's still some regulars there including MM:)
