Travel and such like

I travel for work, a reasonable amount.

I have a new laptop which I take if I'm going to be away a while. However, it's big and heavy.

I have a smallish laptop which I could take - but it's getting long in the tooth and doesn't run Vista - which the PC and the other lap top do.

I've toyed with the idea of a netbook. But I'm only toying... I can't figure out if I just want one because of the "Oh, shiny!!" factor of if it would actually be useful.....?

"Oh Shiney" is not what I look for in computers.

I'm of the Tim Allen school of computing.

More POWER! Argh argh argh!

I'd trade a little weight for a few more GB of RAM or a faster processor. I'd not be carrying a lappy far and it would be in a nice bag with a padded strap.

It would be primarily for off site ingestion of images until I could get it home and transfer the images into my storage system for heavy duty editing.

And Vista isn't a factor for me. I'd wipe the drive of any machine I buy with it on there and install XP.

But that's me.

There are some pretty decent Netbooks out there nowadays, and for a sensible price quite often too... I'd get one with a DVD drive though and sensible HDD size too...
