Should churches in a bad state of repair be restored to their former glory or demolished?

I have noticed that some Churches in the UK - probably worldwide too are falling to pieces, simply because they are just too old, or have suffered due to bad weather, etc..

When they get in that sort of state, they can sometimes become quite dangerous for the public to enter, so I'm assuming that the Church would be closed until a decision is made either to repair the Church to it's former glory (or close to) or pull the place down.

If a Church is in a bad state of repair, they try to raise money in their local area to restore the Church. I'm assuming from that, that nobody in the government or local council will pay anything towards that work, so the money must be raised by collections in the area.

Of course - on some occasions they cannot raise enough money for the job which may exceed 10,000 or so. I wonder what would happen if they raised only 2,000 ?

Would they then give all the money back to the locals in the neighbourhood, or would they keep it?

Thats a strange thought??

Anyway, perhaps it's better to just pull them down if they're that bad, as there are so many Churches around the place anyway,

But you know how some people are ;)
