I've solved the problem but I don't *understand* why it worked - could someone explain?

My printer stopped working. Apparently the USB wasn't being recognised.

I uninstalled it, tried to reinstall it, that didn't work - tried all the usual things.

So I plugged the USB not into the hub but into the tower unit.

Voila, as they say.

Moved it *back* to the hub, and it's still happy.

Does this mean I have a dodgy hub?

usually USB are backwardly compatible but some USB 1.1 don't like USB 2 hubs, have you tried a different keyboard? actually Janet i don't like a USB key boards for the simple reason if you ever have to do a re install or even an install you cant get into bios with a USB keyboard simply because the USB drivers don't become operative until windows start whereas a ps2 keyboard drivers kick in as the Bios is posting up, just thought i would let you know ,jmb

Where the heck did i get keyboard from when you was on about printers maybe your printer is aUSB1 device ?

Perhaps you had too many USB stuff on at the same time?
