Gateway Saga

The replacement  monitor arrived yesterday - I hooked it up to the computer and left it on all day.
It seemed fine.
I turned it off before going to bed.
This morning I started it all up and there was no image on the screen, it was just black but the power button was on.
I could not shut it off, I had to unplug it to shut it off then plug it back in and restart it to get it to work.
This is the same thing that happened to my original as soon as it was out of warranty.
It got to the point where I had to leave it on all the time or it would not restart.
One night I accidentally shut it off and it never came back on again.
Also, there is no warranty registration with this replacement.

Are you sure it is your monitor at fault, not your video card?

If I remember correctly, DeWitch has run another monitor off the same computer with no problems. She has also read how a great number of people have had problems with the same model monitor, as if there is a quality control problem, or even a design issue.

However, Quaver, I respect your tech knowledge, and am wondering if you have a more subtle technical point in mind (other than the basic "video card either works or doesn't" way of thinking). Are you thinking in terms of a refresh rate problem (a refresh rate which may work fine for another monitor, but which might be deadly to the Gateway)? Or something else that is monitor-specific, like a driver problem, or detection problem?

I have not mastered these areas. Can you elaborate on the nature of your suspicions?:)
