For more than a year, I have enjoyed following the daily Lil Abner strip, reprints from the famous Al Capp strip, made available at http://www.dilbert.com. His strip was published for many years, and I
have not read most of them previously.
Several days ago, I started getting a 404 when I went to my bookmarked position http://www.dilbert.com/comics/lilabner/index. From the Dilbert 404, I read that the Dilbert site has changed, and the Beta site has color Dilbert comics, asks you to download a Dilbert widget, has animated Dilbert, and challenges viewers to come up with better dialogue to finish strips. One must register (free).
I registered, and was told my e-mail would get something to activate my account (which never happened). I cannot log on. If I try to register again, I'm told that my e-mail address has already been used to register, but I must activate my account, and the e-mail to do so is being sent again--but, in reality, it never reaches me. The activation has supposedly been sent to me three times already.
Nothing I can see in the site (without having logged on) indicates that any comic other than Dilbert exists.
The blog says that one can get the old-fashioned Dilbert strip (i.e. uncolored) by rss feed. I don't have any of the software suggested, by which to receive the RSS feed--and I don't want the Dilbert strip, I want Lil Abner.
Can anyone help me? Can YOU get the site to work for you?
I cannot make blog comments about my problems logging in, because I am not logged in.
I don't see any way to e-mail the site to complain about my problem, either.
I look in on Dilbert every day. I didn't need to register. I haven't downloaded the widget either as I have no wish to rate each strip or "share
with my friends" or get the cartoons sent to me.
I'm having no problem looking at the strips but the animated versions seem to stall sometimes.
I get 404 when I go to your bookmarked page.
The main page loads fine, no need to download anything.
Perhaps get another email address (like hotmail), and try registering again?
Is your flash up to date?
There's a contact us page: http://www.dilbert.com./contact_us/
Check your "Spam/Junk" mailbox, if you have one, in case it's been filtered to there without you realising...
It's often the case that some sites don't like particular email addy's, Hotmail and Yahoo, to name but two, as it deems them as spam addresses.
Use a different email addy. (Googlemail has been pretty reliable for me.)
I'll also try the contact us page that Quaver found for me.
First notice at the contact page:
"we will get back to you with all your hopes fulfilled. As long as those hopes were only for an email response. Eventually"
I got an e-mail from "Tim" at Dilbert. I have been given a reset password. I hope the account has been activated (I haven't tried it yet).
Suspense---will I be able to read my Li'l Abner?
If it is not available at Dilbert, will it become available elsewhere?
I will have to find out later, since I have some other things that demand my attention.
Special thanks to Quaver. The other suggestions may have worked, also, but hers worked rather quickly with the least trouble to me (e.g. I did not have to pick another login name in a new registration).
Well quite. But if it's really important to you:
Honestly scholar - it took me 5 seconds to find the link. Please try google yourself next time.
Most likely, it's an infamous banned troll, using a sock puppet account, pretending to be you!
