Install problems
delanti - 8-11-2014 at 01:16

I have had a HP1400 all in one printer on my PC for a long time. For some reason I have lost the Twain ability so decided to just remove it and do a reinstall from original disc. The install starts and then gives me a message that it cannot be installed and I have to log in as Administrator. I am the only user and am designated Administrator. I am confused.confused2

What OS?

It might pay you to get this:

Right-click on the drive, in "My computer" and select "Take ownership".

If that dioesn't work, due to the CD being write-protected, try copying the files to a new directory, on your HD, then take ownership of that directory, before going for the install.

If you uninstall it, from Device Manager, then reboot, it should reinstall it, though.

Sorry for not including the OS which is wonderful Win 8. It was late last night when I posted and it had been a long day. I did remove the printer but didn't think of rebooting, will work on it today, Thankswaveysmiley

Have you looked at the HP website to see if there are any updates for windoze 8?

The printer has been connected and working on this PC for a couple of years. Just lately I wanted to scan something and opened Irfanview and selected the Twain source and I have none. That is why I decided to just reinstall it. confused2

Then I would suggest putting the disk in, and hopefully it will give you a "system repair" option. Otherwise, apart from my suggestion above, uninstall said printer, do a re-start, and attempt to re-install it again. Word of Warning here: Some printers must be disconnected before installing their software, make sure yours is not one.
