I'm running Windows xp. I'd been having problems with different facets of my machine and finally decided to reformat and do a clean install. I
returned the data I had saved with Acronis and was checking to make sure everything was good and realized my printer was not installed. It is a
Lexmark 3100 series and, although old , has always worked well. I did the usual install hardware but got the message that the printer could not be
installed because "The specified print monitor is unknown" I can't find out anything helpful about Print Monitor. Do you have any suggestions as
to what I can try next, I suffer from "Know just enough to get myself into trouble" syndrome but am not afraid to try anything suggested. Some
suggestions from a Google search were to change the Registry but since they seemed to be for a different model, I didn't try them. Hope you can
Could be a problem with the latest Windows Updates, it's taken out my Win XP system as well where I can't use either a USB or LAN printer. Can print
to a PDF with no issues though.
Not had chance to try and figure out what went wrong, but this months update was massive and it would take a while to determine the issue(s). I've already done the usual diagnostics and none of those worked, so it's a bit more serious than a corrupt driver/printer interface.
I've tried everything I can think of. In the Knowledge Base there is a suggestion but when I go to the inf folder, my printer doesn't have an entry
as suggested in the hint.
I appreciate any help you can give me and wil try anything you might suggest.
If you really need your printer then do a roll back to before when you last did Windows updates and then redo them one by one. That's about all I can suggest short-term till Microsoft sorts this mess out, this update has caused more than few issues for various people.
Granny, please do let us know if you have success with Faolan's or Katzy's suggestions.
It's good to have you with us. We'll be pleased if you stay and join in our conversational posts. (But, no pressure.)
No luck yet. I'm afraid to do another clean install of XP . Same thing might happen.
In my google search, I noticed that all the info was old...03/06/07.....this obviously is not a common problem.
Why not upgrade to Hissssssssta or Win 7
And welcome to the forum
I have to confess...
I wouldn't have a Lexmark printer if they paid me.
