Iím having a little problem with my Samsung Q1, Windows wont start it says this file <Windows root>System32hal.dll. is missing, I have tried to do a fresh installation but it will not boot up from my external hard drive!!!
Any ideas please???
Thank you for your helpÖabbs.
have you gone to bios to enable boot from external drive or not if you have not then you won't be able to boot so make sure that is ok first.
do you know how to get into bios, either click delete or Ctrl+Alt+delete then go to advance then select order of boot then use page up or down to change setting then save then exit . then put the window cd in and hope it will boot.
also if you have window xp you can press F8 after you have turned the power on that it will take you to safe mode from there click ok and then go for
a restore (start/all program/accessories/systemtools/restore) try a few days earlier restore and hope you get back to window.
you may have problem with you graphic driver, if restore does not help then go back to safe mode again and try AGP safe mode. follow the instruction and again once window gets started then go for restore .
Restore is the only way out.
Thank you for your help, since I didnít have much stored in it; I thought I should just re-install windows again and that sorted the problem, but now I canít get the onboard keyboard to work, any ideas???
Thank you for your helpÖ
we do not know how much you know about pc, if you know bios then get into bios and check for keyboard enabled or the best thing to do is click on
default setting and when it says yes or no click Y then click on save and exit that will set your parameter to default and your keyboard should
your other option is to reinstall again using the cd or dvd player on your laptop (NO external drive) and hope it will work.
Katzy's links are very good. As you'll see from them that the file HAL.DLL is a windoze system file (Hardware Abstraction Layer) which convinces windoze that it really needs things like keyboards and mice etc. Your first port of call is BIOS to ensure that you can boot from CD/DVD and that your keyboard actually works at this point. If all is well, there, depending upon your CD (system recovery from the MFG or M$ Windows CD) is what your next step will be.
The keyboard Iím talking about does not need connecting because it is part of the software, it is a virtual keyboard that shows up on the screen where I can use my stylus for typing, Samsung Q1 come with a touch screen and no internal drives (as we all know) so I am trying to activate the virtual keyboard.
Thank you for your help..
sunshine congratulates yourself, whatever you did got you yourself in catch 22 do not blame us???
a- have a look at manual and see if it talks about BIOS and how to get into it??
B- if you have USB keyboard try using that and see if you can get into bios and reset to default.
C- use google type sensible question mention the correct name of your machine and see if anything comes up.
D- email samsung and see of they can help.
E- i bet none of us owns what you have, you have asked for headache with what you have bought No Keyboard????
it just occurred to my mind your machine must have its own cd, by formatting the hard drive you have deleted all the software which were installed by samsung. i bet you have not reinstalled that cd and you just reinstalled window and that is where your problem is most likely.
Kourosh, is there any need at all for that? I don't think so....
Abbs has not, in anyway, been ungrateful for the responses s/he has recieved.
May I politely suggest you get your own house in order before you start pointing fingers at other people with their PC troubles.
Even IF Abbs is partly to blame for the current problems s/he is experiencing. (I don't know the answer to that) then s/he still deserves to spoken to in a polite manner....
I still believe you need to be VERY careful when throwing that type of remark around... It might easily apply to yourself on occasion lets not forget... And it might come back and bite you on the bum...
I have no idea about these gizmo's, so can't offer anything substantial, however, one thought springs to mind is, does playing with the Accessibilty
features in Windows help?
Probably way off....!
Did you get any other CD/DVD's from Samsung, when you bought it?
LCD screens with screen touch technology can only be made to function with the help of microsoft power point software.
you formated your HDD naturally you deleted all the softare. your machine either came with the CD which had MODIFIED power which enable it to use the screen or it did not, most likey it did not as it is becoming common practice for computer firm to sell you goods but retain vital software they have developed so they can make some money from you when it goes wrong.
if you have not got the CD then you will have to take it to samsung and they will install it for you using their own CD,(they will use USB keyboard and mice in order to install it on the HDD). try somehow get hold of copy of that CD (ask if you can purchase one copy or one of their engineer do you a favour and supply you a copy??). .
your other option is to go to forum which are specialised in power point and see if anyone can help you ??? good luck
I must thank you for all your response I really do appreciate it, this Tablet PC I bought as a second hand so it did not come with CD, I have downloaded all the necessary software of Samsung site including the software for the virtual keyboard but even after installation the virtual keyboard still needs activation from the setting and thatís what Iím having problems with, will get to the bottom of it soon with your help, I will search on Google for the activation process, Iím sorry for the delay in my response due to work commitment.
Thank you for your helpÖ
