Annoying pop up
soomsoom - 29-11-2007 at 19:16

Hi all

Guess what, the pop up is still lurking. No matter which folder I open and click on a file, the pop up is there.

The security I am running is McAfee Internet security full suite.

Yesterday, I thought I would like to peruse my recipe folder and as soon as I clicked on a recipe, sure enough my friend the pop up appeared.

Although the pop up says cannot find etc etc, the link I am opening still opens.

My brother-in-law told me he had the same problem, he did eliminate it but could not remember how.

edit P.S. My left paw hurts, too, from its RSI.:(

Worry not. I told everyone about it, when I returned to the fold.

It's no problem. My life is an open book.

Thanks for your concern, though, Dazza.

Soomsoom...

Do you know how to make screenshots?

A pic of the popup might well help, with this.

A Hijack this log might be useful. Have a read here: http://www.karlsforums.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=12362

Can anyone guide me step by step on how to make screenshots?

I am extremely new to computers and have a lot to learn.

I would appreciate any help I can get , any tips anything at all

Regard me as a student willing to learn the ins and outs of computing

One other thing, how do I put a smiley on my post

Do make a Screenshot...

While the error is on screen, press the "Print Screen" key on the keyboard. (Sometimes it's abbreviated one way or another, so it might be PRNT SCRN, etc, etc on the keyboard instead)

This will then capture everything you see on the Monitor in front of you, just as if you'd taken a photo of it.

Then go to START > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > And open PAINT.

This will open a basic image program called MS Paint.

In Paint, open EDIT, and then click PASTE.

You should then see the image appear in paint that you took of your Desktop.

Go to File > Save As > and save it somewhere... (The Desktop would be easiest) Name the file whatever you want, and you can change the format the file is saved as, so save it as a JPEG, as the file size will be smaller...

You can then add the screen shot to your post here (in the Forum) by clicking the "Add Attachment" button and browsing to the file you created and saved.

There are programs out there, that will do the same thing for you, but I always do it this way, other people can recommend an automated way if you'd prefer.

To add the Smilie, just click the on the little images next to where you type your message, and the shorthand/code will appear in your message, and then the smilie will appear once you've submitted the post. (E.G. ;.) (remove the single full stop) and it will appear as :) )

Thank you Daz for the time you have taken to guide me through the steps of making screenshots.

I shall do just that and hope I don't bungle it.

Hello again.
I tried the print screen key but could not capture the pop up.

This is an example of the pop up.

Windows cannot find 'http://www.dianasdesserts.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/recipes.recipeListing/filter/dianas/recipeID/1581/Recipe.cfm'.

On the bottom OK and in the top right hand corner X
Each time I pressed the print screen key I got a sound and nothing would open up for me.

The only thing that worked was if I pressed the OK or the x

Mind you, whatever I wish to open still opens a short while after the popup.

The Prt Scrn button will have absolutely no effect. All it does is copy what is currently on screen to the clipboard (it's a throwback to the early days of computing where Prt Scrn actually sent the text on the screen to the printer) Once you've pressed the Prt Scrn button, open Paint as Daz has suggested and click on "Edit" "Paste" and you will then see the screen shot that you've just taken.

If the text that you report above is correct, something it trying to access a website, by the look of things. What exactly were you doing just before the popup appeared?

Katzy - 4-12-2007 at 17:55

Ah!

Maybe there's a clue, there, after all.

Have you been copying/saving a Turkish Delight recipe, or something, from that site?
