Spain raised the legal age for marriage from 14 to 16 today. In Sweden the minimum age is 18. My husband's niece got married at 14 which I was
perturbed about at the time but it was considered legal.
What age do you think people are really ready for marriage?
Somewhere between 21 and 30 !
Over 21 that's for sure, ( I was married at 19)

Neurological science says the decision-making centers of the brain are not fully developed in a person's teens.
It certainly seems as if many people who marry young still have personal changes ahead of them, and may not be as good a match some years afterwards.
No one is ever ready for marriage. I was certainly in no hurry to get married, until I met "miss right", then I couldn't wait. Look where that got
me! 36years later I'm still married.....you get far less time for murder.......
As to what the right age is, that is difficult, some kids are ready at 14, others should NEVER marry, let alone procreate! Personally, marriage should be harder to get into, and even harder to get out of. These days kids get married and if they decide six months down the road that it's all too hard, they can just as easily get out of it. I'm not saying that there are not good reasons for divorce, but many of them claim to be just "incompatible", guess what, you've got to work at it, if it is worth having. [I'm gradually building my soap box, so I'd best stop now]
53 years tomorrow for me 25 July 1962
Difficult one. Experience and common sense tells me 14 is too young by half but I do have this problem with the state ruling on what comes natural.
I was 25 and she was 18. I was ready but she wasn't. No matter how hard i tried, it just didn't work. Happy anniversary Mr. Barnes, you must be doing something right.
