If she has two virus-checkers running, kill one of them, coz they'll conflict.

Try a repair of avast:

XP - Add Remove programs>'Avast! Anti-Virus,'. Click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click "Next and follow the destructions. ;)

Vista, Win7 - Control Panel>Programs & Features>Uninstall a program. Select 'Avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair. Click "Next" and follow the destructions. ;)

She may need to reboot after the repair.

My sister's laptop has this alert on her avast anti virus " the following componant could not be started - IM shield p2p shield, file system shield.

Any clues as how I fix this?
