|others have fully explained about ddr ram,
theoretically you should know your motherboard in and out, look at the motherboard manual it will tell you what ram configure best with your
motherboard if it say pc 2700 200 then going any higher would be a waste of money (there are pc4000) in a sense you woun't get much better
will1GB work with with 256?? it will work but if you look at your motherboard manual you will see they suggest you to have two equal ram next to each
other for best performance. make up your mind and decide how much you want to spend. 1 Gb only or two 1GB or two 512 MB ram are best choices for
your pc. price wise price of 1 GB usually is higher than two 512 . again you can go to ebay and it is one of those lucky days and you might get 1 GB
for the same price as 2X512 mb .

Personally, I'd pick between These
two... I wouldn't bother going for the very high end RAM to be honest, unless your system warrants it....

DDR2 and DDR3

one 64-bit channel; downstream data on the other). Channels can be configured as two 64-bit or one 128-bit. Modules must be installed in matched pairs

|Hi, new to the forum and to upgrading PCs
After an online check,I have a Gigabyte 7VT600 motherboard. I want to increase my RAM to 1gb. I currently have 256mb.
It says I can only use DDR SDRAM then the checker said that I could use PC2700 PC3200 AND PC4000.
My questions are
whats the difference in numbers mean?
does DDR mean DDR1 and is RAM theb same as SDRAM
is it cheaper or better to buy a 1gb stick or buy 2x 512mb?
will my 256mb work alongside added Ram
what is the average price as I dont want to pay over the odds?
