The article says the contest is to focus on the inner beauty of pets, which can be wonderful for a family without regard to appearance.
I wonder if such extremely horrific-looking dogs might need extra care and protection.
Would they be scary to children who had not spent time with them?
On another extreme, I have read of cosmetic surgery for pets. Plastic surgery for real medical improvement, I can see--but, a tummy-tuck or face-lift
for your dog or cat? I don't think so!

Another ugly dogs page. I like this kind better, because it is not one-picture-at-a-time. My connection is slow for loading whole pages for each
individual pic.
