Laptop kaput

I tripped over the power cable last night and when the lappy stopped charging I assumed I had damaged the wire. I bought a universal charger tonight on my way home and no luck.

I assume now it is the actual battery but tried removing it and charging directly as wikihow suggested but no joy.

Any suggestions before I go buy a new battery or laptop?

Yerk... It may be simply that one of the wires connecting the charger socket's come adrift.

Got a local repair guy?

Yes. I can use a local chap or someone at work. Just annoyed a trip is going to be so expensive.
