Nikon Coolpix S2700

Pal of mine had deleted all the photos of a Sim card unfortunately had used the camera again not being aware that it was possible to retrieve them,I managed to get back about two thirds of them to his surprise.
The camera was a Nikon Coolpix s2700 And the lens stayed out when reviewing the photo's does anyone know if this is normal? My Ixus lens retracts and would have thought they all would to protect it when not in the shooting mode..

Most of the point and shoots I've worked with keep the lens out until you turn it off.

My Canon Ixus has the lens out for a minute or so, then retracts to save battery power.
Well done for recovering the lost photos:clap)
