Piece of the Christ's crucifixion cross?

Article here.

I would be surprised, since no mention is made in the Gospels of anyone saving it or any part of it. I would expect the cross member to have been thrown away, and the upright portion may well have been used again for the next torturous execution.

Further, I don't know how any authenticity could be determined. (It could, perhaps, be proved false, but I don't know how it could be proved to be genuine.)

scholar there was a roaring trade in pieces of the "one true cross" at one point in history. It may well be that the person who kept this believed it was authentic, but that does not mean it was.

Of course if the DNA trail proved anything that would be very exciting. Until then I'm not holding my breath.

Marymary, if someone says a DNA trail proves something, don't believe it.

Do you mean Jesus' DNA, from blood or tissue left on the wood? With what would you compare it, for authentication?

Yes, one can expect Jesus to have surviving relatives from among His brothers and sisters who had His same mother, but I don't think their identifies are known, from which to make DNA comparisons.
