To replace or not to replace a netbook monitor

It's (Acer Aspire one D257) cracked, and it won't show anything:( It changes colour when I press on it.
I can see a physical crack, I don't know when it happened. It went like that at the same time as the power going off. I was just browsing the web, I haven't dropped it or anything.

External monitor works fine.

New monitor will cost 35.
New netbook would be about 210 (I probably won't get an Acer though)

I've only had it for a year, but it's been acting up for a while.
The left side of the touchpad is unresponsive, and the power sometimes cuts off by itself. Oh, and it shorts. I had some small electric shocks.

The warranty is void as I've changed the ram.
Changing the ram may have done it in. It's the right kind, but changing wasn't smooth sailing.

Even if I get a replacement monitor, it may short again and self destruct, so I'm not so keen:(

I wouldn't hurt to open it up again and see if you've pinched or dislodged any wires or ribbons.

I've checked everything, and it looks ok. I've re-seated the ram as well. It may have been that the keyboard ribbon was a bit loose, and by typing the wrong word, it dropped the power?

The screen is definitely cracked as I can see the crack even when the screen is off:(
It's sort of bleeding black 'blood' along a thin line running kind of vertically for 10cm or so.

The dilemma is whether to write it off or not.
The battery performance was brilliant and the webcam is great.
Still loads of space on HDD. It still works fine with the external monitor.

Problem is random power dropping, erratic touchpad and occasional static charge...

Also, the main PC (big laptop) I'm using is getting old, bought it in 2006.
I was thinking of getting a new one, but a proper big laptop, not a netbook.

I suppose I can make do with my smartphone (also getting old) for most things:(
