Packard Bell laptop model qua-k1 CD-ROM Problem!!!

Hi, a friend of mine brought me her laptop (Packard Bell laptop model qua-k1) which has a problem of detecting the CD-ROM; it is not detected in My Computer, Device Manager, Disk Management or BIOS, the CD-ROM its not the original part that came with the laptop it must have been added later on, the CD-ROM is tested and working and also it powers up when laptop turns on and if a CD is in the drive it does spin as well, any ideas please?

If it is not even detecting it in the BIOS there is no hope of the operating system recognising it. Does it work in another machine. Have you checked the connectors (disconnect and re-connect). Can you try the drive in another machine?
