UK drug addicts offered cash for sterilisation

by American charity.

It rather presumes that they will never be clean.

In essence I can see the sense in whats being offered, but there are a host of side issues.

A person on drugs needs to be assessed as to his competentancy to make that decision.

What happens at a later date and the addict detoxes and then wants children.

Will the views of relevant spouses be taken into consideration.

And a host more.

After my third child was born and not wanting any more, I had a vasectomy. I felt I could not deal with any more than 3 and any more would reduce the quality of care and attention that I could give the 3 I had. It is nothing that I regret to this day.

Having said that, why is it we so upset, mushy and teary eyed when we see and hear of these children born with drug addictions, birth defects and suffering child abuse but when something like this comes along we all of a sudden start giving greater consideration to the parents?

Since many have willingly chosen a life of drugs the children have no choice and no say in the matter. Myself since it is a voluntary sterilization if they change their mind later or have regrets, get cleaned up and want children, they can always adopt.

Having drug addicted children is not much different than having an abortion in my opinion.waveysmiley
