God not needed to light the blue touch paper

About turn

Quote:
"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing.

"Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist.

"It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going."

...

[Hawking] cites the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting a star other than our Sun.

"That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions - the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass - far less remarkable, and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings."

Which is ok IF you can get your head around M-string theory, multi-dimensions beyond space and time etc, lots of those dimensions being so small as to be invisible to us but now identified by the scientists, plus the important point that there isn't just one single M -string theory but a bucket full of individual ones, each or several fitting only one part of the overall design of the universe.

I can remember a tv programme from many years ago about a British scientist who was so derided when he suggested an 11th dimension that he left for the US. How times change - as do the "this is the one and true" theory when later it's found not to fit after all.

Well if Hawking is right it will put a lot of noses out of joint especially those of fundamentalists, mind it wont change their concrete mindset it never does to the dogmatic brain washed who cant or wont look at two sides and evaluate .
