A friend, blessed and a blessing

I may have mentioned P. previously here, whom I met when we were hired to be census workers. He had previously fallen on hard times because of illness (he never told me exactly what), and had to live in a group home for a time. On the day I met him, we had taken the first part of training (one might rather say, "reading and filling out government documents"), and he asked if he could ride in my car to the census office--he was so hard up, he wanted to save the gas it would cost him to ride to the office. I was glad to help him.

P. asked to work on the third shift, which would allow him to earn an extra dollar each hour. I worked 8:30-5 most days, so I didn't see him, but I worried that there was often not enough work to occupy all three shifts, and he might be let go.

When third shift was closed down, I was pleased to see he was moved to the day shift. I remember one of the day shift supervisors was required to work third shift a few nights, and that supervisor told the day people that some third shift people slept on the job, some took long breaks and long lunches, some hid from supervision and work assignments. But P. stood out, simply because he did his work!:o He was retained, when the others were let go.

Now P. has worked for three months, the same as I. I think that means he will be covered by unemployment compensation, even if they let him go at the end of the week. Good for him!

I was moved today when the conversation turned to bread, and he gifted me a loaf of premium 100% whole wheat bread that he had with him at work. Its flavor and texture and moistness are excellent--it is far superior to what I usually get. Here was a friend who so recently had next to nothing, and he was spontaneously generous to me.

I praise God for the kind people He sends my way.:)

You are both acting upon a basic Biblical principle, "Give, and it shall be given unto you......" You were willing to help him when he was doing it hard, and, now, he is repaying your generosity. I'm pleased to hear that he is as willing to share from his bounty as he was to receive of yours. He'll do well in the future. Sometimes we may never have the opportunity to see how our blessing has blessed someone, but, down the road, who knows?
