Windows Update Problem

Hi Folks,
For a few weeks now on trying to access Windows Update I get a message that I need to install "Active X Control " before I can access the update site. The message says that I can do this from the pop up bar but there is nothing there.
I've tried to follow the help links but they all refer to error codes of which i have none.
How can I get the required Active x Contol ?
Any help would be gratefully received.

When you go there, reduce your security level to "Allow everything", for now.
