Question about my dvd writer...



Ok on my lappy I got accer vista 32bit with the dvd writer (pioneer dvd-rw dvrkd08rs) that isnt reading for the last month... Just been to busy to even figure whats wrong with it. Ive ran the microsoft fixit program and that seems to not fix it either... does that mean my dvd is shot?

clean the lens, but usually when they can not read that means gone for good

A lens clean is a good first point, Synzra, you can purchase a lens cleaning CD from most retailers. Some even use a liquid (usually Isopropyl Alcohol) to dissolve dust and dirt. If it fails that, I'd be looking to see if a) windoze recognises the drive (control panel) or b) BIOS actually reports the drive. If it is seen in BIOS, but not Windoze, you may have a driver issue. If not seen in BIOS, you may have a drive issue.
