External DVD writers

Any recommendations?

My laptop DVD writer broke...:(
It was one of those DVD+-/R/RW/RAM DL Panasonic.
It spins up, but there's no reference of the drive in My Computer/Device manager/Bios.

Problem could be either loose connection, drive broken or the motherboard is broken.

I think time to buy a slim external drive?
(My desktop PC only has a CD-RW and DVD-ROM, no DVD writer. No SATA connection either).

The ones I've found are:
LiteOn
LG
Buffalo

IIRC, LG is just a Lite On in another guise, I've not heard of Buffalo. Lite On are OEM manufacturers like Sony and many companies re-badge them so Lite On is my choice followed by LG.

Liteon are Sony drives in disguise.
