Cannot load user profile

Hi
I have 4 "User Profiles" on my pc and when we try to log on to one of them ( the other 3 load with no problems) I get a message saying "sytem attempted to load or restore a file into the registry but specified file is not in registry format".
It then logs us on as a guest with no access to any of the files.
Can anyone help with this one?
Windows xp and I have run AVG, Spybot, Malwarebytes etc. and still got same problem.
Thanks
Pete

Thanks LS
all went well until I tried to find the new profile through c/DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/ "new profile name" . The new profile I created does not show up here even though it is showing and accessible from the log-in screen?????? So i cannot paste the documents from the old corrupted user profile into the new one.
Help please!!!!!
Pete
