Question about xp and virus control

I osed Housecall today and it told me that with XP you need to disable restore.

I use Symantic antivirus on a daily basis, does this mean the program is useless unless I disable "restore" on a daily basis, because housecall says any virus's may be stored in my back up :(

No, not all... Just that no AV can protect you from infected System Restore files... They need to be cleansed by turning off System Restore...

Housecall is just protecting itself I'd say, because people may complain that it doesn't remove an infection from the SR folder, or that they are still infected etc...

If an infection has taken place, then once cured, SR must be turned off, rebooted, and turned back on to remove any infection that may be in the SR folder...

That's my understanding anyway...

It wouldn't hurt to purge the SR files once in a while though anyway, it'll save you a lot HDD space... But obviously you'll have lost the security blanket it gives you for rolling back... So, make a new Restore Point as soon as it's been turned back on...

Thanks Daz, I was beginning to worry as I have been using this tower for for 6 months before realising housecall advised "turn off". :bon)
