Stolen from thread "Girl murdered"

Quote:
[quoite]originally by Redwolf5150 At the risk of turning this into a RSE topic, I raise this point.

If God created man in his/her own image, what does that say about gays and lesbians? Are they less in the creator's image because of their sexuality?

I'm as straight as a razor blade, but I cannot tolerate gay bashing, even if done so under the pretext of "God told me to in the Bible."

As this would have caused severe thread drift, I've started this thread here.

"God created man in his/her own image" - agreed, He also gave man a free will to choose. He also gave man the option whether to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, or not. Man chose to disobey this "rule", where there no such "rules" then man would never have had a free will to choose to obey or disobey as they saw fit.

"Are they less in the creator's image because of their sexuality?"- No! but the issue is one of obedience and free will. By choosing to disobey God's rule they are in sin, just as a person who commits rape and murder, or a child who steals a bikkie after mum has said no, is in sin. God has also decreed that the punishment for sin would be death. God is not all warm and fuzzy, luvvee duvvee that we sometimes portray him. There is also the taskmaster about him that expects certain standards.

"I cannot tolerate gay bashing," - nor would God! He is slow to anger, and quick to forgive. God is the only one who passes judgement on a person's life, it is not for me to say one way or the other whether a homsexual, bisexual, or heterosexual, is deserving of punishment or derision.

I dont see it as clear cut as that Leigh, yes we have free will, which is good, but the original act of defying God was down to the beguiling sales pitch of Satan when he spoke to Eve through the Serpent, he also took his chance when Eve was on her own.

I know where you are coming from Bear, but, in the end, it has all come down to a choice. "Do we accept the story, or not?"
i.e. Should Eve have accepted the serpent's guile "Has God really said....", to which Eve applied her own rationale and applied her own free will (logic) in her response, to which Satan also "rationalised" on her thinking and "convinced" her that her thinking was wrong. If we choose to follow your rationale through, then none of us could be held accountable for any of our actions. "The Devil made me do it" would then become an acceptable cop out, sorry, that does not work for me. I make my own decisions, yes, the Devil may try to influence those decisions, but, the choice is still mine, that is what free will is all about!
