Windows Live Sending attachment guide?

A man in his 80s is having problems sending an attachment on his PC. I've tried helping him on the phone, but it does not work:(
I've downloaded Windows Live desktop as well, but it is the same until this one point - when I double click the file I want to attach, it becomes an attachment. When he does the same on his PC, he get's a blank page (he says it has blue line on top saying Internet Explorer Windows Live, so not completely blank).

My PC is XP home, his is probably XP or Vista. Could be Vista. Attachment is under 2mb gif picture.

Are there any guides on the web? Or does anyone know what's happening?confused2

Does he have another e-mail client that he could use? I've seen Windoze live, but have no experience with it, so can offer no more than you've already tried.

He probably does, but it would be VERY hard to explain that to him on the phone...

Perhaps logging through normal Hotmail.com site might work betterconfused2
