Well what a drubbing given to Arsenal this weekend. Wenger will spitting mad that his beloved team was totally humiliated and out played and out thought on the pitch by a rampant Manchester united team
and it goes to show that life goes on without Ronaldo. Mr Rooney took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored a beautiful headed goal, while not an ardent fanatic of the Manchester team credit where credit is due Manchester united were worthy winners and if Arsenal cant perform better than they did not only will the cup be lost but the league also, jmb shocked_yellow:P

LSemmens - 17-2-2008 at 13:13

Is that you, Charles? ouch)

John Barnes - 17-2-2008 at 19:27

charles - 18-2-2008 at 13:09

John Barnes - 18-2-2008 at 14:02

Its that WE I find so irritating by that remark if taken literally it means the team could not have done without the help provided by yourself Charles . whereas I think they would won whether you supported them them or not. jmbwaveysmiley

Oh i have been labouring under the idea you meant yourself
so if I had delivered taxi to a supporters door and taken him to the match even though not going in I have helped in their win over Arsenal last weekend , so in some small way I can be counted as a supporter as well. even though i don't support them at all , I see your logic (not) jmbnananana

LSemmens - 19-2-2008 at 11:09

Oh, John, you, being an Englishman, should recognise a royal wee when you see one, or am I just taking the p*ss?

Daz - 19-2-2008 at 13:31

To be fair to Charles, and John probably wouldn't know this, as he's said himself, on numerous occasions that he's not a Football fan.

99% of football supporters talk about their team in the way Charles has in this thread...

When City (ECFC) win it goes something like this.... "We" did great, and "we" played some blinding football which fully deserved the three points "we" earned...

When City lose, it's more like this..... "They" were utter crap, "they" couldn't pass their way out of a paper bag, "they" were lucky to have only lost by the one goal, "they" need a rocket up their backside if they think supporters will accept that week in week out...

Etc, etc...

If you're not a "Proper Football Fan" you'll never understanding the workings of it... waggyfinger

;)

charles - 19-2-2008 at 14:01

So now you know John.......waggyfinger

I think you read far too much into it....

But remember this, football isn't about life or death... It's much more important than that...!!! :D kewl_glasses

To be fair John aren't we all guilty of that?. Be it a football team or an army going to war? It's everyone's idea of teamwork.

John Barnes - 20-2-2008 at 02:41

No I dont agree, the team are the 11 players and the staff who are paid by the board, Charles and the other few hundred thousand "WE" are just paying punters that glory in the win and class themselves as victors when all they have done is pay their brass and cheered themselves hoarse, their entrance fee I agree help the finances of the club and keep them going but as far as saying we won that is a fallacy what they are trying to say is look at me the team I support has won and that makes me superior to you, it just a false bragging like in the school yard, all boiled down its a team win and unless you are on the payroll you are not a member of the team you are just playing a supporting role as a punter, so how can you gain reflected glory from some result despite your fanatical support would take place one way or the other, just a straight congratulations to the team and their performance would suffice without trying to get in on the act personally jmb

Oh bloody hell John, have it your way if it helps your blood pressure ,............

John Barnes - 20-2-2008 at 11:14

Calm down Charles, no need for expletives ,also my blood pressure as I so often stated is fine , are you a doctor? if so you must be good one being able to diagnose from 40 odd miles away. then again maybe not such a good one as your diagnosis's completely wrong as i don't have hypertension. I was just trying to find out why football fans like to equate themselves along side established players to brag about their exploits ,
so if I was a keen fan of say Joe Louis and when he beat Max Schmelling back in 1938 or to bring it more up to date Lennox Lewis when he beat Mike Tyson, I can say like the football fan says, "WE" gave him a "good whippin" even though I was not in the ring and thousands of miles away at the time and in the case of Louis and the German not even born but "WE" still thrashed him, jmb

I refer to my post earlier, when I point out that you don't even like football, so you are never going to understand the football fans philosophy...

I don't understand Religion, or Science, so I steer well away from those threads, I find it helps, if when you talk about something, you have some kind of an understanding about it... I appreciate that may be just me though... ;) lips_sealed :P

Yes,you are beginning to understand now

John Barnes - 20-2-2008 at 13:31

I think though I may be wrong here Daz meant you when he said you don't understand football, he can t mean me as he does not know me at all to pass that sort of judgement on me, where as you as football reporter come specialist he maybe does comprehend,
I am neither saying I do or don't understand football what I don't understand is how grown fellows can equate a team win with themselves as though they had done it personal like by adding themselves into the equation, when patently they have not contributed on the field , but then again I have it heard it called the field of dreams, so perhaps in some way the people who say the magic "WE" are just dreaming that they are active participants in the win? and are deluding themselves that they are an integral part of which ever team they actually support jmb

WE means, as a club, players ,supporters, and uncle tom cobly and all.

John Barnes - 20-2-2008 at 20:56

Come on Charles , its no good appealing to uncle Tom Cobbly, actually I know perfectly what mean when you quote the WE but as you have not posted as much of late, I feel its my duty to bestir you and get those numerous posts going again and restore the universal balance. it would not be me if I did not try to goad you a bit by playing the obtuse card now and then, from your old pal jmb

ps just new, Lyon -1 Man U- 0, se are we taking a thrashing yet?

LSemmens - 22-2-2008 at 11:09

Don't you pick on my mate Charles! It's my turn!

John Barnes - 22-2-2008 at 11:21

Be my guest, he is in need of geeing up a bit of late as he seems as though he has lost his fire, we don't get old trumpet posts like of old
its all just mundane chatter of late,
I don't if its because the league as gone and there is not a lot shout about or its his blood pressure taking over . keep taking those pills Charles and this unlike in post is just an estimation and not a diagnosis, as 40 plus miles away is just too far for my expert medical conclusions unlike your good self Charles, who passes out a determination of hypertension from a distance and that's without a consultation or physical visit to Charles 's surgery.jmb

ps give a quick diagnosis to Mr Semmens he is only about 12000 miles away a mere bagatelle to you Charles. jmb

LSemmens - 23-2-2008 at 11:42

I may play a short, light, piece of music, but, a bagatelle, I am not!
