Mere Literary Festival
SRD - 1-3-2008 at 16:12

Ok, if this is too blatant a plug please pull it, but I would like to mention this little literary festival I do the website for. The short story competition opens today and you have until July 7th to get your entries in.

Hi Simon,

Some friends of ours live in Mere. Been there a few times.

Is that one of your websites?

SRD - 1-3-2008 at 16:51

shocked_yellow Small world again John, I know your part of the world and you've got friends down here.

It is one of my websites, I've got some changes to make anyway but would appreciate your comment......maybe ;)

John_Little - 1-3-2008 at 16:58

Actually, I think its quite good. It works well, I like the layout and the colours. And I dont care what anybody says about frames.

SRD - 1-3-2008 at 17:08

confused2 I haven't used frames, actually I wouldn't know how to, but if you think I'd dare go against the good doctors 'advice'....I'm not that brave.:D

John_Little - 1-3-2008 at 17:15

Absolutely right, of course. Looked like a frames site to me, though.

LSemmens - 2-3-2008 at 13:31

Just an observation, Simon. Would it not be appropriate to say on page one that all links will open in a new window and leave it at that.

Dreamweaver - 2-3-2008 at 13:52

I have a problem Simon, when it opens in smaller window it's fine, but when I expand the window all the white writing on the left merges with the central bit.

Is it me or the website at fault?

PS The link contravenes no rules.

Yes, I've noticed that, passing the cursor across the screen shifts everything into place, I suspect it's a browser refresh problem, what browser are you using?

IE7, and yes the curser did the trick.

SRD - 2-3-2008 at 16:05

Hmm, I'm even more convinced it's a browser refresh problem, I'd like to say 'There's not much I can do about that' but I suspect that's a cop out, if anyone has a solution I'd be interested.

Simon I have the same problem.

Simon are we invited to submit an entry?

Regards the Bear

SRD - 3-3-2008 at 08:22

Bear: Anyone can enter as long as the rules are kept to.

LS: People don't necessarily come into the site from the front page, at one time the google stats showed the downloads page to be the most popular point of entry, at another a particular year's results (down to a group of people googling their names I suspect), although the sites accessibility does need improving I think the info on each link should remain, despite it's ugliness.

Deadlines going both ways - taking mother in law out to lunch, then returning CD to halls. :}

LSemmens - 3-3-2008 at 11:14

Keep us posted on the results of this year's event, Simon. Having read of your efforts in the development of this site, I feel like it's your baby and we are all the aunties and uncles.

SRD - 3-3-2008 at 11:37

Keep an eye on the site LS, who knows you might see the name of someone we know in the winners lists.

It's only one of my babies, there is my family site:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/simonriverdale/
my step-daughter's site:
http://www.bright-sparks.me.uk/

And I feel a personal involvement in quite a few others that I have assisted complete novices with.

The good dr john (inter alia) has held my hand (and spanked my bottom) throughout the process.

SRD - 29-6-2008 at 08:05

Only a few more days left to get your entries in.
