IS schoolgirl story
Is anyone really so stupid as to travel to join IS and not think they are risking death?
When they see militant Islamic jihadists cutting heads off people, do they think they are gentle, happy, loving people?
The New Testament faith is a better foundation for life.
As is the humanist one.
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
BOT I do wonder at the situation that motivates such children to do such things. Either their families are radicals and need to be investigated, or their home situation is such that running away is a viable option and the family still needs to be investigated. Surely there are no other circumstances that would convince young people to pull such stunts.
Little girls only allowed out to study at school or attend the mosque see their friends with boyfriends, having a life. Along comes Sally Jones online
telling them that they can marry and be the wives/widows of jihadis who are clearing sin from the world one country at a time. They did what seemed
reasonable to them, having an adventure with little thought for the consequences to themselves and their families. Is it really any different to
taking drugs, driving too fast or having sex with all and sundry at music festivals? Teenagers have brains which are not fully formed and research
shows they find it really hard to imagine consequences.
However, if I were in the police I'd be looking VERY carefully at the family who have apparently been in contact the whole time she has been away.
They flew from Gatwick??? begs some questions.
a) where did they get the air fare from?
b) would they not have needed a passport?
surely their age would have begged a few questions like:
c) where are your parents?
d) who are you going to see?
e) is security that lax at a major port like Gatwick????
and so on.....
All we know is that she had been questioned by the police earlier due to the escape of a former classmate and she was in contact with a Muslim from Scotland who had also gone to Syria. The girl in the OP stole family jewellery to pay for her flights etc. apparently. Her father was one of those involved in a protest organised by Anjem Choudary but this is allowed under UK law. The family she lived in take their religion seriously. The less predictable flights to Syria are those who come from non-religious families. As her family are religious, it is more likely than not that she was "sheltered". It is notable however that she was able to make her way to Gatwick so the family trusted her to be going where she said she was which is how she managed to join IS.
