Is there anyway I can load XP back on to my computer and run it safely even though its not supported?

If you use search words such as "xp os end of support", you will get a ton of hits (and changing a word or two in the search widow will give you a different set of hits)--far too many to read more than a few.

It's clear from many of these hits that the web is itself infected by those who absolutely, unequivocally just have to have the latest OS under pain of extreme doomsday is upon us anxiety that no amount of Prozac will cure.

If, for whatever reason, you'd rather not go over to a Linux distros, you certainly need a decent free antivirus and firewall.

About all that I think is worthy of worry is to never ever use XP for ANY online purchases, financial information files on the HD, etc.--no exceptions ever.

There is NO safe OS, and no perfect antivirus; safety in the digital world is relative. And of course you would have to avoid websites known for their propensity to have malware in them such as porn sites. But even if you choose to, and have done a daily archival backup of your data files (on something like an external HD), how long does it really take to reformat the HD and reinstall the XP OS if you get hacked?

Jack, reading between the lines a little, the Bear may want to know how to re-install XP so as to be able to use it, even if Microsoft is no longer doing what it used to do before the 30 days termination to allow the system to keep running.

A friend sent me a computer with XP on it that says it has 30 days left in which to be confirmed, and says so every time I boot it up. So, I know there is a way it can be done.

Since the Bear had a valid XP and simply wants to re-install it, it wouldn't be an illegal OS, even if it would be re-installed in an untypical way. (But, I don't know how it was done on the machine gifted to me.)

I don't understand a lot of the technical jargon, but to make things clear I don't want to re-install Xp but continue running windows 7 / 10.

I have been given another PC / Tower which I would like to set up running XP loaded with some of my files from my present system ( I will share the monitor and printer).

I'm going to try and create a separate workstation for my writing and correspondence together with files that I can save pictures to for illustrations. I would most probably build up a system of photo files.
Things like buying from the internet etc will be done from here.

I also intend to buy a new printer, (one with good ink usage and able to print both sides! ( any suggestions type and make).

It should install OK. Will it activate, though? Possibly, yes. Will it download and install updates? Probably not. But, if you're not gonna hook it up to the net, I doubt that'll matter, much. It won't activate, either, if there's no net. Does the 'phone number still exist and work? Good question. I believe that it does, at the moment.

If all else fails, you could try this:

Is it legal? Dunno... If your copy of XP is genuine, I think you'd get away with it, myself.

I've not had to install Xp for a couple of months, but last time I tried (after EOL) it installed and activated ok, it even downloaded the "updates", such as they were. I think all M$ is doing is not providing any new patches, but, for now, the last set issued is still available on their website. Of course, that won't last forever, I don't think you can perform a live updated on W98 any more.......

I'm still using XP but was warned to switch off MS updates as it could screw up the OS as they are not intended for XP even though they still kept coming after the finish date.
