The article mentions only the skull was found. If the proportion of the body to the skull is not what they imagine, or if a very different creature had a head with similarities to a rat, it could be quite a different animal.
In Kents caverns in Torquay. Devon. England. there is the fossilized remains of a Smilodon one of species of sabre cats that where the largest ever to inhabit the Earth. I have seen it and the jaws were two feet across and the the animal was over 18 feet in length as told by the guide in the caverns the predator grew that big due to the ever increasing size of its prey, , jmb
