US ice storms
scholar - 11-12-2007 at 18:33

Missouri and Oklahoma have sustained great damage. Coats of ice as much as 1 1/2 inches thick have brought down trees and power lines. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost electricity. Tulsa, Oklahoma had 75 fires (mostly from sparking live broken power lines).

The Des Moines Iowa air port is shut down--the de-icers cannot keep up. When a de-icing machine starts at one end of the runway, by the time it reaches the other end, the side at which it started has started to ice up again.

Chicago has had more ice in the last four days than at any time, at least back as far as 1924.

With record-setting cold weather, one has to wonder how people still believe in what the founder of the Weather Channel calls "the global warming hoax."

It sounds rather bad with all that ice.

I don't know about "the global warming hoax"... as such.

Your weather seems to be colder than ever while the weather where I live now is warmer than ever.

There does seem to be a big change in the weather patterns... but then that is Mother Nature for you.

I was watching it on the BBC, have to commiserate with the people affected by it and hope it does not find its way over here
