Shutdown

It's personal for me, as I have a pending VA claim that is now delayed until the workers come back.

At least the VA Med Centers are still open for those who need them.

And guess what?

Obamacare has taken effect anyway.

DC rush hour today

Nimuae - 1-10-2013 at 19:33

Dare one ask why america is closed or would that be provocative ?

marymary100 - 1-10-2013 at 19:36

A game of blink that went too far.

Redwolf5150 - 1-10-2013 at 21:45

Just our beautiful "Grand Experiment" having a momentary case of gas.

Will probably get interesting now. I just hate having that claim held up that I was hoping to have by the 7th.

I went by the Rescue Mission today and the line was no longer that any other day. No one I had contact with or talked to said it was other than a normal day. Can they stay closed until after April 15 so I don't have to pay my taxes?waveysmiley

Hasn't bothered me either! waveysmiley

You're either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Are you a taker or a giver?

Redwolf5150 - 15-10-2013 at 22:13

I'm beginning to think SOMEONE in the Senate should pull Sen. Ted Cruz aside and tell him in no uncertain terms...

KEEP YOUR DAMN NOSE OUT OF THE BUSINESS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES!

I've tried, but his switchboard in DC is jammed every time I try.

marymary100 - 16-10-2013 at 23:09

Looks as if it might finally be over. I heard a senior Republican on the news here talking openly about "neutralising Ted Cruz" whom he clearly blamed for the entire debacle. America defaulting on loans would cripple the economy in the US but also in many other countries around the world that lent them the money in the first place. Imo America has diminished itself in the eyes of the world as a result of this round and sadly it's likely that you'll be here again on the 7th of February.

Redwolf5150 - 17-10-2013 at 02:27

It's over until January.

Unless the House Jackassalopes decide to get serious about the conference committee to come up with a budget with the Senate.

I ain't holding my breath.

The agreement to end the shutdown is a prime example of why I am an Independent rather that Republican or Democrat. While the Republicans rant and rave about Obama care and the Democrats refuse to negotiate on the debt ceiling and the media carries on about which party is the winner and which is the looser and the devastating effects of defaulting guess what? Behind the closed doors Harry Reid (Democrat) gave Mitch McConnell (Republican) 3 billion dollars for his home state which bought his Republican support for the agreement.

This is the reality of politics in Washington. Neither party understands that the taxpayer is fed up with this type of negotiating. It would be interesting to know just what else was slipped into the bill and whose palm got greased to get the Government going again. Getting that bad taste out of my mouth.brshteeth

Oh yay, just found this hidden in the bill.

Bunch of jerks that the American people vote into power, for some reason.

My granddaughter works for Social Security. She did not get furloughed and had to work the same as usual but did not get a paycheck. Now that things are sorted, she will receive her back pay so in reality, the shutdown had no effect on her.waveysmiley

Other than people not being able to live in fresh air until the paychecks are in place...
