I was just looking at this paper which touches on the "argument from dignity."
http://philosophy.nd.edu/assets/75014/twoargumentsfromhumandignityjune5_07.pdf

But, I don't have time to read it carefully right now, and I would hate to make an ignorant comment based on part of the paper, which the author might rebut in another part that I haven't covered yet.

I hope we can come back to this.;)

Interestingly enough, I was listening to the BBC world service on the radio, yesterday, when they were discussing similar. I missed the start of the show, so the premise was not clear. But they were discussing sentience and animals, along with their rights. In relation to some court case in (You guessed it), NOT England or Australia, but some other, supposedly, civilised country that can't spell properly, where, I believe, a monkey was fighting for his "rights". Whilst the discussion revolved around what was appropriate for determining the rights of animals it did sound almost like an argument against evolution, though that was not the topic of discussion.
