injury and death at Colorado mission and church

How many times have I lamented that a gunman continued shooting without interruption, because no one present was armed? Finally, at the mega-church, armed security was present and shot the murderer dead on the spot.

Your reaction?

Where did the gunman get his weapon from? Many of these deranged people only take up arms because they are readily available, not because they think, "I'm going to go and shoot some people tomorrow, so I'll get the bang stick out and give it a good clean, and ensure I've got enough ammo for the job", it's more like: "I'm angry and I'm going to get even and the gun and ammo are here, so I'll use that"

In a country that espouses the right to protection (by bearing arms), there seem to be many more senseless slaughters than other countries that have far less liberal gun laws.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Not quite the same thing...

Tonight's news mentioned that the killer (who proved to be the same man, in both instances) had 1,000 rounds of ammunition! :o

The armed security who killed the shooter was a volunteer, and credited the Holy Spirit with allowing them to be calm and accurate, to kill the man quickly before he could do greater harm.

This morning, I saw an interview with the lady who was the armed security. Her first name is Jeanne.

She was the ONLY security. She had missed the first service that Sunday, because she was feeling poorly from being in the middle of a three-day fast. When everyone else was running from the shooter, she ran toward him. When she had opportunity to shoot him by surprise, she didn't. Instead, she identified herself and told him to drop his weapon. THEN, when he didn't comply, she fired at him.

The news report said that, between the shootings at the Mission training school, and the shooting at the church, he had gone online and made twelve posts on an anti-Christian website. Others on that site objected to his plans and tried to dissuade him. (I wonder if any of them contacted law enforcement.)

The New Life church in Boulder Spring, Colorado, is not far from the Focus on the Family ministries complex (Dr. James Dobson's organization). Many of his ministry's people are members at that church, and knew the people involved in the shooting.

I found it touching that he led his people in prayer for the family of the shooter.

The killer had been raised in a Christian home, and had applied to do mission work in the mission school, but been rejected for that program. This was where he first shot two people before fleeing. The twelve hours between the first and second shooting were enough for the New Life church to decide to have security on hand.

A recent news report has now said that the killer actually died from a shot from his own weapon, which he fired while Jeanne was shooting at him.
