Windows Error 20 Problem
Kevin_E - 10-8-2014 at 19:40

Help, I uninstalled a piece of software (mainly Java based) to install an update, now neither this nor the original version will install again - I get "Windows Error 20" which according to MS is a driver missing or incorrect. There are no yellow conflicts in my Device Manager. How can I find out where the problem is?
I am running Windows 2000 sp4 on a dual core machine.

Thanks

If its a win dows error try updating your windows system on windows updates it may put in an obscure driver it needs

Or do a system restore that would probably replace your lost driver as that is what Google says error 20 is, and if the worst comes to worst save what you can to disc and do a complete system install that's what I would do

Don't forget to turn off your anti virus before you do system restore then turn it back on once done if not some nasties could lurk and re infect your system after system restore has finished its work

Might be good to know what this "piece of software (mainly Java based)" actually is, or we're just guessing, for the most part.

Windows 2000, has well and truly reached the end of its service life and there never was a system restore option for it That was not introduced until XP. Are you sure that the software would even run in W2K? The name of the software and version number may give us some clues.
