We adopted two cats from the Humane Society
Redwolf5150 - 18-8-2013 at 17:05

A 1-year old neutered male named Biggey and a 2-month old male we named Ansel. (His "pound name" was "Tantar" and I thought Ansel fit him better.

Pics later...

How can you not already have pics for us? (I think of you as carrying one good camera all the time, except when conditions might damage it.)

I stood along the Wisconsin River for an hour last Sunday watching bald eagles fish, with a couple flying just five feet above me by the end...

... all the while I was cursing not having a camera with me.

It happens.

There ARE a few on Facebook, as I'm sure the people here I'm friends with there will attest.

:D

Like when I was in the diner this weekend and some questions about Revelation came up, to which I knew the answer--but, I didn't have my Bible with me so that the one with me could read the verses as I spoke.

Ansel

Biggey

Biggey tolerates Bunny, unless he thinks he's hurting his "Little Brother. He is VERY protective of the kitten.

LSemmens - 19-8-2013 at 00:09

If the other cat was female, you could have had an Ansell and Gretel. ;)

Priddy puddies, though.

Redwolf5150 - 19-8-2013 at 00:15

There was a female named Sassy that Jackie wanted.

But, just like the two we got, she still has her front claws.

We were told she did not appreciate dogs.

Hence Biggey.

Nimuae - 19-8-2013 at 05:33

They are lovely cats, Redwolf, and your little dog doesn't seem to feel too outnumbered by the. I am glad to hear they still have claws. Declawing cats/kittens is a deplorable habit and is illegal over here.

Redwolf5150 - 19-8-2013 at 13:59

Woke up this morning and Ansel had climbed up the bed and slept on my pillow next to my head during the night.

Biggey slept on the bench at the foot of the bed.

marymary100 - 19-8-2013 at 16:13

They are attractive looking cats.

Redwolf5150 - 19-8-2013 at 20:44

We took Ansel to the vet this morning as a precaution and it was a good thing we did.

The meds they gave us at the shelter for him wouldn't do anything for what he has and at the dosage they had us giving him, we would have been burying him by the end of the week. Ten times the dosage he would have been on if it was viral.

Instead, he has Kitty Herpes. It's not fatal, but not curable but we now have the right meds to help him get over this outbreak and prevent future ones.

They also told us he is only six weeks old, and now I get to feed him kitty formula in a syringe to help build up his immune system and put some weight on him.

So the wee one and I have lots of time to bond.

As soon as we can afford it, Biggey goes in for a check-up, too.

(When I get a pet, I realize it's for at least a decade)

Redwolf5150 - 20-8-2013 at 22:38

They've taken over the laundry pile for cat naps.

I think Biggey is especially fine looking.kewl_glasses

And I have no doubt Ansel, with his youthful energy, is lots of fun.:D:P

Redwolf5150 - 22-8-2013 at 01:10

Bought the kitties a catnip mouse today.

Because it's full of cheap medicine, I decided to name it Eorl.

:D

Redwolf5150 - 26-8-2013 at 03:05

Ansel has shown a REMARKABLE ability to play computerized solitaire.

Nimuae - 26-8-2013 at 06:14

You are in for a lot of fun, Redwolf !

Redwolf5150 - 26-8-2013 at 13:04

This is not staged. They catnap together like this in between being little terrors. Especially now that Ansil's breathing is improving and we got his nose unclogged.

Redwolf5150 - 24-9-2013 at 16:27

Why Biggey is called Biggey.

And he's still under a year old!

Ansel takes a few minutes to recharge before going on another destructive rampage.

Such as destroying EVERYTHING remotely floral in the house, for just ONE example.

Redwolf5150 - 28-9-2013 at 01:00

Ansel has taken to singing classic rock songs

[badimg]http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a224/redwolf5150/92613-2_0092LionSleeps_zps494aa90d.jpg[/bad img]

"In the jungle, the mighty jungle
The lion sleeps tonight
In the jungle the quiet jungle
The lion sleeps tonight."

[bad img]http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a224/redwolf5150/92613-2_0003Youmustsleep_zpsd61f4da3.jpg[/bad img]

"You WILL have to sleep eventually. THEN I will have my REVENGE!"

LSemmens - 28-9-2013 at 11:49

The Lion Sleeps tonight, made I smile. I am currently watching The Lion King with 6YO grandson.

Redwolf5150 - 2-10-2013 at 18:25

Ansel is a snugglebunny.

And he has the LOUDEST purr I've ever heard in a domestic house cat of ANY size!

LSemmens - 3-10-2013 at 10:12

He's probably ate an outboard motor when you weren't looking.:D

Redwolf5150 - 27-10-2013 at 04:16

While redecorating my home office, we had a small accident with a paint tray of white ceiling paint that was compounded when Ansel got into the spill.

Which lead to the first bath either have known since we got them.

Nimuae - 27-10-2013 at 05:35

LOL! Years ago one of mine fell into a bucket of wallpaper paste - came out looking like a punk-rocker with spikey hair !

Cats just love to help with D.I.Y.

Redwolf5150 - 26-11-2013 at 01:14

Who knew Ansel was a purist when it comes to holiday decorating?

Biggey in the glow of the Christmas lights, Dec. 7, 2013

For those interested in tech specs: Canon 40D with Canon 70-200 f4 1/8 of a second at f4 at 3200 ISO, handheld.

scholar - 8-12-2013 at 02:11

Years ago, my family had to give up the use of a live Christmas tree because our cat felt a compulsion to pee on it.:(

Redwolf5150 - 8-12-2013 at 02:16

Our decorations are 100% artificial

[bad img]http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a224/redwolf5150/112513-1_0007Christmastrees_zps62b81f27.jpg[/bad img]

(about 1/3 of our decorations are battery powered at that)

LSemmens - 8-12-2013 at 09:05

Our tree is all natural plastic and metal. ;) (thanks for the foto specs, RW, I might have a go at taking a piccy of our tree. The grandchildren did a great job of decorating it yesterday!

When you get down below 1/60th of a second or so, you will have to be real careful to avoid camera shake. I have 40 years experience with real long exposures, so 1/8 is about as low as I can go freehand.

If you have a tripod, I would suggest using it. Especially since it will give you more options on slower speeds to get more light.

Redwolf5150 - 10-12-2013 at 23:26

6:15 a.m. the day after we set it up.

marymary100 - 10-12-2013 at 23:39

Nice necklace.

Redwolf5150 - 11-12-2013 at 15:43

So far, so good.

*Knocks on Wood*

Biggey is content to sit on the tree skirt and pretty much play with the hanging unbreakable ornaments.

After Jackie gave Ansel a two swat spanky after pulling him out of the tree, he hasn't climbed it again.

*Knocks on Wood*

LSemmens - 12-12-2013 at 00:55

I need a smaller lens, Could only take some of the tree in the space I have....

waffler - 12-12-2013 at 01:04

oulda called them Ansel n Gretal :)

[bad img]http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a224/redwolf5150/121113-2_0053purringansel_zps7384157c.jpg[/bad img]

Sometimes, you just need a kitten to climb up on your chest, purr incessantly, and refuse to go away.

Ansel is VERY good at this.

If I try to put him down, he goes and stands in front of my monitor until I give in and let him back on my chest.

Nimuae - 13-12-2013 at 08:32

He is simply gorgeous, Redwolf!
