Rarely, if ever. Though I have attempted to buy art from student exhibitions in the past.

How often do you visit galleries?

Almost never. :}

Does art matter, to you?

Yes - but public art...

Who are your personal favourites?

There used to be an American sports illustrator - painter - whose work I loved and would have purchased, if I'd had the money... can't remember his name!

I have two small originals - done by local artists.

Quite often now, as our Gallery has started changing it's displays more frequently.

Yes, art matters to me - I don't like to see it ridiculed by the likes of Hirst and the creature who displayed her unmade bed - but that is just my opinion.

My favourites are John Waterhouse, William Morris, Holman-Hunt, and Monet.

Increasingly we seem to judge art by its financial value rather than its artistic merit or its impact on us personally.

Hirst's Shark sold for $7m and he recently bypassed his usual gallery to launch a sale by auction Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, at Sotheby's. The auction exceeded all predictions, raising 111 million ($198 million), breaking the record for a one-artist auction as well as Hirst's own record with 10.3 million for The Golden Calf, an animal with 18-carat gold horns and hooves, preserved in formaldehyde.
