Doughnut shops are a logical place for cops to stop. They try hard to have good coffee and doughnuts, and are prepared for people to come in at odd times (not just at the mealtime rush, since they are a snack).

In my youth, I worked at a fast food place where we used to serve police at no charge. It was the overnight shift, and the manager liked having the police near, in case of trouble.

It's a stereotype here in the States that members of law enforcement are overly fond of doughnuts.

If that helps any of our overseas friends who are scratching their heads over Scholar's post.

I know of a wife of a policeman who is slightly embarrassed, when asked where she met her husband. The truthful answer--in a doughnut shop. :D

I've just heard about a man who tried to steal a car from a customer at a doughnut shop. The customer went inside to get a doughnut, but left the car running. The man got into the car to steal it. The police caught him within two minutes.

Who would have thought--policemen in the vacinity of a doughnut shop!:o
