I have complex passwords for my financial dealings and a fairly generic one for all other dealings. I also use a password manager to "remember" all my credentials for the numerous accounts. I may be able to select a password for my accounts, but 90% of the time my "public" face, i.e. my username, is forced by the account supplier, and often, not something that I am likely to remember in 6 months when I may next need to log in.

I tend to make words out of numbers and letters.

My Halifax account, for example, COULD be h4l1f4x.

Abbey National, if it stll existed, might've been 4bbeyn4t10n4l.

Here, I could use k4rl5f0rum. (I've always kinda sniggered at "Forums", as the correct plural is "Fora" and this is a single forum, with a number of boards, it should be "Karls forum". Still, due to "Forums" now being in common usage, thanks to those illiterate Yanks, I guess we're stuck with it). :D

My passwords for official accounts need to change every six weeks. I have 20 different passwords for 20 different accounts. The random double word and number/special character route is the one I normally take but it gets tedious to constantly have to change them so often. Maybe I'll go back to 1234 hahaha.
