Nothing and no-one will ever shake my belief in God - but I do not see him as an entity that would visit 'divine retribution' indescriminately. If he is really upset by homosexual marriages then he is more than capable of making that known to the people concerned.

However I do credit him with more compassion and common sense!

As a Christian, I can understand his viewpoint, drought is another disaster that may also beset a nation that violates Godly principles. My view point is that God has set some laws in place that we violate at our own peril, like gravity, whether you believe in it, or not, you are still subject to those laws.

Where you run into trouble with that thinking though is,if God (as portrayed in the Bible) does not exist then that raises the spectre of

i. there is another god who is even more p***ed at us for not following his way

ii. there is no god at all and we can do what we like because there is no point looking after anyone other than number one and sh*t happens anyway.

I think someone should tell drought stricken countries all they have to do is legalise gay marriage...

So, we all suffer, due to our government's bad decisions.

Yeah, seems "Situation: normal".

UKip man's letter

Quote:

A UK Independence party (Ukip) councillor has claimed that Britain's recent storms and floods are "divine retribution for the government's decision to legalise gay marriage.

David Silvester, who defected from the Tories in protest at David Cameron's support for same-sex unions, claimed he had warned the prime minister that the legislation would result in "disasters".

The Henley-on-Thames councillor said that the country had been "beset by storms" since the passage of the new law on gay marriage because Cameron had acted "arrogantly against the Gospel".

In a letter to the Henley Standard he wrote: "The scriptures make it abundantly clear that a Christian nation that abandons its faith and acts contrary to the Gospel (and in naked breach of a coronation oath) will be beset by natural disasters such as storms, disease, pestilence and war...
