Is that the physical power button on the Acer box?

I left my Windows 8.1 computer on, as I usually do, with the browser on and a word processing program.

When I returned, hours later, no cursor was on the screen, and none appeared when I moved the mouse. I still retain some of the old work-by-keyboard skills of yesteryear, so I tried to get response that way, but no luck. I finally just killed power to the machine. (My Acer does not have an obvious restart switch, like my older machines did. I just pulled the plug.:( Of course, that is not a good way to do it.)

What caused this?

The room has been hot, lately--is it likely to be temp-related?

This new machine is one of the compact ones, and I have not been into the box to do anything, yet. If I must get in to do something, it may be hard for me to get everything to fit back in, exactly as it came. (You know, like when you have bought something at the store and try to pack it back the way it came to return it. You wonder, "How did it ever fit before I opened it?"
