But if your security is good enough, then your web browsing should still be reasonably secure.... And the chance of infection, no matter where you visit, should be reduced... Assuming, as Leigh says, sensible precautions are taken...

It's ok repairing, or formatting your Windows drive, but if the infection is still residing elsewhere on your HDD then you are still infected... Or at risk of being re-infected...

Lessemmens thanks for comments and concern. Not at all i do welcome all comments Criticisms . web is there for us to surf and not get stuck with one page. i think the cause of disappearance was a combination of nasty ones and a prog i downloaded named anitfreeze which is suppose to help you when task manager can not help (it looks they conflicted each other). i deleted all. i have got active spyware (spyware terminator) but there are limit to all these security software. my important data are safe if it comes to worse i either will go for a repair or reinstall window. some of the site i visit they are nasty form one end to the other lips_sealed but in all honesty i do enjoy going round and trying new prog and new sites even so it occasionally causes some headache.

You seem to be plagued with bugs, Kourosh. From this latest episode, I'd be severely reviewing my security followed closely by my browsing habits, closely followed by my usage.

This has been asked of you before.
- check your firewall, antivirus package, anti scumware package/s and other security packages that you use.

- check what sites you visit, are they known to be purveyors of nasties? Typically file sharing sites that border on the illegal, or are illegal.

- I hope you're not one of those "click this and see what it does" types, these are the hardest to cure, but the easiest to prevent. i.e. Don't open anything unless you are sure of the source!

Sorry if I sound severe, I really do have your best interests at heart.

Task manager seems to get removed by some nasties/bugs, so you might want to check things for any unwanted visitors...

I use TweakXP, too. Wouldn't be without it.

Start > Run > Type "gpedit.msc" (Without the quotes) And browse to: User Configuration > System > CTRL-ALT-DEL Options > Remove Task Manager...

See if it's been disabled (Bugs do this as part of the infection) Default setting is "Not Configured" If it still says that, try turning the feature on and then off again...

I tend to use Tweak programs to automatically make these changes for me, it saves much hassle...! (TweakXP Pro is one I use, but there are many out there, and many are free too...)

It's a dangerous place in there, so don't go messing about, 'cos it'll probably end in tears, unless you remember EXACTLY what you've fiddled with.... !!!

From here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323527

To start Task Manager, do any of the following:
• Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Task Manager.
• Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
• Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, and then click Task Manager.
