A box with large viewing holes in the sides, on top of the bookcase, might be just the thing. I sometimes buy large bottles of cola in a box that is mostly frame--the middles of each side are holes so as to display the product inside and also save cardboard--and the family cat loved it. It gave the enclosed-in-a-box feeling he liked, and also allowed him to see out and have ventilation.:D

Jane opened one, to find Twiglet fast asleep in it.

She can only have got in there by teleportation.

Because I am nice like that, I cleared the top of the bookcase next to my desk, and put a blanket on it, so that 7 had a place to sit and watch.

Not quite an epic fail but close
