Once they get to a certain size you can't use a net on them anymore. Causes too much stress when they get their spikes and spines tangled.

So you have to handle them by hand.

And notice I said they have spikes and spines.

And they're armored.

They can be quite the handful if they decide to thrash.

Jamie's longtime special fish, Spot, was trained to come to the surface to be petted.

He had another trick as well, but I'm not sure if I remember it to describe it right. Redwolf, did he blow bubbles?

I don't know if Spike will learn the same tricks. I thought the come-to-be-petted trick sounded expecially neat.

This is Spike, my new plecko.

[bad img]http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a224/redwolf5150/Spike1.gif[/bad img]

At around 1 1/2 inches long, he's got some growing to do to get to the size Spot was when he died. This photo is like twice life size, BTW.

Those who remember the pictures I have posted of Spot in the past will also notice Spike's coloration and markings are much different than Spot's were.

This was intentional as I didn't want another fish that looked like Spot. Spot was a unique fish and I didn't want anything messing with his memory.

Anyway, Spike will be living in the 10-gallon tank for six months or so until he is a lot bigger before he moves into the 90-gallon. The Blood Parrots and even Gizmo, our green spotted puffer fish, would probably mess with and maybe even kill him if we put him in right now.
